Learner | SumTotal LMS | Self-Enrollment into Learning Activities

How To Register or Manage Your Enrollment


Purpose: This article will guide learners through the steps of requesting an account (if needed), registering for an eLearning or managing their enrollment through the Academy LMS (SumTotal).

Confirm Access to a SumTotal Account

  1. If you have access to your account skip to section Register for an eLearning

  2. If unsure, click on the link below to access SumTotal

  1. Select “Forgot your Password?”

  2. Input your county work email address as your username

  3. You will receive the following response: 

"An email has been sent with the associated username on file.

If you do not receive an email in a few minutes, check your junk folder and ensure you typed your username[work email] correctly."

  1. If you do NOT receive an email or do not have a SumTotal Account, please submit a Ticket to the Academy Help Center at the link below to have an account created for you: 

https://apexsupport.sdsuacademy.org/portal/en/home

  1. Include the following information in the description section of the ticket:

  • Participant Name

  • Participant email address

  • County (within CA) or state (outside CA)

  • Department (APS, PG, IHSS, etc.)

  • Primary job assignment (line worker, supervisor, manager) or Job Title

  • Supervisor name and email address

  1. Once the account is ready we will share this information by replying to your ticket. 

Register for an eLearning

  1. Log in to the Academy Learning Management System (LMS), SumTotal, by clicking here using your username and password. Be sure to turn off your pop-up blockers before you log in.


  1. On your Learner Dashboard, click on the Course Catalog section to open the library.


  1. Once at the Library, you will be able to view all available learning activities.

    1. The Library page provides a list of all available learning activities. Use the search field or select "Topics" to find activity.

  2. Once you have identified an activity you would like to register for, click on the 3-vertical dots to the right side of the activity and select REGISTER from the drop down to open the registration page.

    1. For more information on the activity, you can also click on the name. 


  1. Once you select the Register Button, you will be brought to a Registration Summary Page. At the bottom of the registration summary section, click on the REGISTER button to complete the registration.

  2. You are now registered for eLearning. Click DONE in the lower right to exit or START in the top right to begin the eLearning in a new window.









Canceling Your Enrollment


If you would like to cancel your enrollment for any learning activity, follow the steps below

  1. From your Learner Dashboard, select Training Schedule

  2. Check the box to the left of the activity you would like to cancel

    1. If this is is an instructor-led training, select the ILT Course and the ILT Class

  3. Select Cancel Registration in the header

  4. Confirm your cancellation on the next screen

  5. You will receive an email with the cancellation details
